Does the United Kingdom have a 4th of July?
Of course they do. But they don’t likely celebrate it as we do in the US.
For us, the 4th of July is Independence Day; the date on our Declaration of Independence from the United Kingdom.
235 years ago today, we threw off the tyranny of King George. For 235 years now we have struggled against the tyranny of independence.
We have this bent towards not accepting, and certainly not asking for, help. We have turned independence from England into the atomistic individualized independence of the Enlightenment.
